Hey guys, if you are like me and like the 1.1.3 version. but want to fix the sms problem. Try this, i posted this elsewhere, so i apologise if you read it twice.

"Hey guys,
Im not usually one to comment. but I had this same issue and im in Kiwiland (aka. New Zealand)
and the way I fixed it was (after a loonnggg time testing every other method) was to turn auto time update OFF permanately, delete all your messages, and set your timezone, (in my case, wellington, New Zealand)
I am running a;
8GB iPhone
1.1.3, Jailbroken.
If you have any other issues or you cannot seem to get my method working, then i apologise. (This may only work for me, or maybe just people in NZ). But so far, it seems to be stable, and working better (well, just working.) compared to other methods."

Happy iPhone-ing!

Thanks Scoopz

I've got it going just now! I set up a new network from sctratch on the TC with a new name. Then did a proper hard restart on the Airport Express ie: holding the reset button for about 15 secs during its power-up process. (You get 4 green flashing lights then a reboot rather than a fast flashing orange I think when just rebooting WITHOUT repowering.)

I then added it to my new existing TC network and it was fine. The only unnerving thing (at the time) was that the DONE button was grayed out on completion so I wasn't sure it had worked. I am now listening to music playing off my iTunes library, streaming off TC to the MacBook's iTunes and back into the kitchen via AirTunes on the Airport Express. That's what I had in mind when I bought TC so - all good!

On the subject of the iPhone. I'm 1.1.4 (jailbroken as iPhone isn't out here in Ireland until friday) and I have no Time Zone probs. I am able to change zones. I've been in Norway and USA in the last 3 weeks and all time zone supports are fine (incl iCal's Time Zone on laptop and iPhone.)

However, when I select Ireland or UK in Region Fromat in the International Preferences on the iPhone, the 24 hour time is always on. I suspect this is a feature of the inflexible International setting on the iPhone as I can have 12HR OR 24HR time when I select USA. This means the dates are wrong (for me) with the month before the day of the month but that's ok (for now.)

Also, I fixed the WiFi problem on the phone. I can't remember where I found the answer but if you do the following anyone with the problem:

1. Tell the iPhone's WiFi preferences to "Forget" the network
2. Turn the iPhone off completely (and back on again obviously)
3. Login to your network afresh
4. Repower the phone again

Mine has been fine since then. Automatically finding my home network every time just like before.

Thanks to one and all!

I updated to from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 today and am a bit disappointed that the time zone issue has not been fixed. My time zone is stuck in Cupertino, so I can't add any world clocks and the time is stuck on 24 hour time plus there is no option to 'set automatically'.

I am a bit of a novice unfortunately and a bit unsure about using terminal to issue the chmod command...

Is there any other solution to this problem?

BigRicky,

I've not got my hands on a TimeCapsule yet, I've got a 500GB and 1TB on order with my local Apple reseller but I'll be sure to let you know if I have any problems with the TC's as opposed to my Extreme.

The TC is meant to be exactly the same as the Extreme only with a hdd included. You could try changing the wifi settings on the TC, swap channels, swap between 802.11n (b/g) or (a) compatible modes, etc see if that helps?

I am jailbroken and had no WiFi probs on 1.1.3 but it's now intermittent on 1.1.4. If EDGE is disabled WiFi works fine but if EDGE is enabled WiFi is randomly dropping in and out, mostly out. I am using Time Capsule though. Maybe there's a bug there somewhere. I am online on MacBook and iPhone no prob but just wifi on iPhone is problematic.

I had the same experience like JoPhone, my wifi used to work on my jailbroken 1.13 iphone. Today I upgraded to 1.1.4 and it stopped working. To be more specific: I see the networks, I can connect after entering my PWD, but Safari will tell me that it cannot find the host and the wifi icon does not show.
Did anybody find a solution to this.

Posting here as well, just to give information that for me the upgrade to 1.1.4 actually messed up my WiFi connection which was working fine on 1.1.3...

^^^Nick^^^
Not being able to set the time zone was one of the reasons for the SMS sorting bug in 1.1.3.

Several people found they could "patch" fix the SMS sorting bug by changing the properties of the timezone file using terminal (ssh connection to iPhone) and then issuing the chmod command:
chmod 777 /var/db/timezone
to allow the timezone file to be written to (see http://blog.scoopz.com/2008/01/17/iphone-113-sms-sorting-by-time-bug/#comments)

But this only really applies to hacked or jailbroken iPhones.

I am not sure if your phone is j.broken but if so try using the chmod command and see if that allows you to set the timezone.

I have a UK iPhone, never been j.broken or unlocked in any way and have never experienced the timezone problem you describe. I just tried changing both timezone and calendar zone locations from London to New York and back without issue.

Have you tried putting the phone in recovery mode and doing a full factory restore to 1.1.4?

What 1.1.4 has not done is fix the date and time bug. Several people seem to have an issue with this and cannot reset to the correct time zone (for some reason mine defaults to Zurich and I'm in Greenwich, UK). If you travel abroad, as I do, this plays havoc with the organiser once you start synching. My World Clock is always one hour slow.
