Review of the Toma brown half leather case for the Fuji X100, X100S and X100T.
I’ve always been a bit blinkered when it comes to digital cameras and never looked at anything other than Canon. I’ve got a lot of money invested in the Canon camera brand including S90, G10, 5D Mark ii, 5D Mark iii, 7D and a whole host of L-series lenses. Last year I came across a brand new Fuji X10 at a price I just couldn’t refuse and I was starting to get the ‘new camera’ itch so rather than the latest G-series Canon or the EOS-M for my travels I bought a Fuji X10 and fell in love with it, especially in it’s Toma half leather case. The X10 accompanied me on all my holidays and trips for the year and it was a welcome relief to leave the bulky SLRs and camera cases at home for a change. However, something was lacking, I loved the X10 but I kept finding myself thinking “I miss the bokeh from a bigger sensor” or “I wish I had my 5D3 with me right now” and I was also finding it a little slow to focus when jumping from an SLR to the X10 so this is where the X100S came in…

When I’m leaving the house to take the dog for a walk or heading off somewhere exotic on holiday, my Fuji X10 is now my number one “got to take” camera. Unless it’s a work (iLogic) related trip in which case the Canon 5DMk3, 5DMk2 and other goodies come out but for my day-to-day personal photos I can’t fault the Fuji X10. OK that’s a lie, the X10 has had some issues (orbs and sensor replacement & dust in the lens) and there’s also been one minor thing that has always bugged me and that’s the neck strap supplied with the X10. Fuji release the new sensor for the X10 and send out emails to X10 owners that have signed up for the free replacement.
Good news for all you Fuji X10 owners, the new X10 sensor that fixes the well documented orb issue is now available (as of 30th May 2012).
I signed up for the sensor replacement with Fuji a few weeks ago by calling Fuji UK Customer services on 08445532322 and giving them my name, address and serial number. They told me to sit tight and wait until I receive a pre-paid packaging to return my camera for the new sensor and also to clean the dust from the inside of my lens at the same time. Make sure you read more about the dust inside X10 lens problems and if you are suffering from the same with your X10 ask them to clean it when it has the sensor swap.
This morning I received the following email
Thank you for registering your camera for a sensor replacement and also for your patience in waiting for the sensors to become available. I am very happy to announce that we now have these parts in stock and we can upgrade your camera as soon as you are able to do without it for a short while.
You will shortly receive some pre-paid packaging with instructions on how to send your camera to our service centre securely and free of charge.
If you have any questions about this service or anything else to do with your Fujifilm camera, please call our helpline team on 08445532322 or email the address below:

So far I’ve not received my pre-paid packaging but I will update this post when that arrives and also update to let you know how long it took them to replace the sensor. Continue reading “New Fuji X10 sensor now available for free replacement”
