UPDATE – Sorry guys and girls, it looks like a was a little premature on this one. My contacts DID all show up on the iDrive screen and I scrolled through, jumped from A-N-W-etc and I came in to get the camera for a few shots for this article. When I went back out, my iPhone paired but after a long wait screen there were NO contacts shown! I removed both pairings, powered off the car and the iPhone and tried again but still nothing. I then updated my friends brand new 3G to 2.02 and tried syncing that (which has never been seen by the car before) and it paired but still no contact sync.
I’ve noticed recently that whenever I answer a call and say “Hello” the person calling me doesn’t hear my initially “Hello” and I end up having to repeat it a second time.
I thought this was just the person on the other end not paying attention until I called a friend of mine and he didn’t appear to speak when he answered the call, when I asked him about it he too complained that even though he says “Hello” the third party cannot hear it.
I’ve just done a few tests calling myself from another phone and it does seem like Apple have introduced a short 0.5 second delay from sliding the answer tab to the mic being enabled with 2.01. I guess this is to give you time to get the iPhone up to your ear and start a conversation but I’d like the option in a menu somewhere to toggle “Instant Answer” on/off.
This is my experience with the original iPhone updated to 2.01, if you’ve noticed similar problems with your 3G iPhone and somebody not hearing you for a split second when you answer a call leave a comment below.
Heard a rumor that Apple have just released iPhone 2.01 update, thought I’d check it out and it’s not a rumor! iPhone 2.01 has been released and is currently downloading 242.3MB in my iTunes.
Just connect up your iPhone and iTunes should announce that there’s an update ready and waiting.
19 days after it was initially launched, it still appears Apple have restricted the White iPhone 3G to Apple stores and “brand new customers only”.
There are only 3 official sources for the iPhone 3G in the UK:
1 – Apple
2 – Carphone Warehouse (CPW)
3 – O2
If you are an existing iPhone owner and wish to upgrade you cannot go to an Apple store! All upgrades for current iPhone users have to be done through Carphone Warehouse or O2.
The problem is, Apple have so far not given any stock of the White iPhone 3G to either O2 or CPW. This effectively means that existing iPhone users cannot upgrade to the White iPhone 3G and must, for now at least, settle for the black version.
I’ve made near daily visits and several phone calls to both O2 and Carphone Warehouse trying to confirm a date that they’ll be receiving stock of the White iPhone 3G so that I can upgrade and some of the responses I’ve been getting are shocking:
“oh no sir, there’s no white iPhone only black, you must be confusing it with the iPods?”
“the White iPhone is going to be exclusive to the Carphone Warehouse, O2 won’t have any”
“the White iPhone is going to be for Pay As You Go customers only”
“The White iPhone will launch between October and December along with the PAYG version”
For Pay As You Go customers only!! Don’t talk rubbish, why would a PAYG customer (who’s going to be paying well over the odds for the phone in the first place) be restricted to getting the White one, which is 16GB only? Christmas time? Really? The Apple store has plenty of them in right now.
